The competition consists of a preliminary and a final round. Every choir will perform an a cappella programme consisting of the compulsory piece and at most four pieces of their own choice, composed in a programme that is diverse and yet structured in a musically sensible way. One of the pieces of choice must have been composed before 1800. This piece can be performed with a reduced number of singers. On of the pieces of choice may be a folk song or a piece of popular music. After the preliminary round, three choirs will be selected for the final round. In the final round, the same conditions as before apply. At most one piece of the preliminary round may be repeated.
The order in which the choirs will perform during the competition is drawn by lot on the evening before the competition, and will be anounced during the competition rounds. The lyrics of the pieces in the final round are also included in the printed programme.
